School Board reviews 2019-20 budget and policies
June 4, 2019 – Orange County School Board members discussed the 2019-20 budget priorities, legislative agenda and policies including the Code of Student Conduct in a work session Tuesday, June 4. The superintendent will finalize the budget for 2019-20 which is expected to be open to a public hearing in July. That is when the school board will vote on the tentative budget.
The Chief Financial Officer presented outcomes of the state budget and how that impacts Orange County Public Schools. Overall, the FEFP funding increase was $80.9 million with $27.8 million to pay for the 3,764 student growth that is expected for the new school year. The Base Student Allocation (BSA) increase works out to be $75.07 or 1.79 percent which brings per student funding to approximately $7,627.
The new increases in state funding include;
• $21.3 million for Best & Brightest
• $1.6 million increase for Safe Schools
• $3.0 million for Turnaround Schools
• $493K increase for Mental Health
The School Board will also have to account for;
• $2.4 million Florida Retirement System rate increase
• Health Insurance increases
Staff from the Legislative and Congressional Relations Office presented an update to the school board on the legislative changes since the session ended. All proposed changes will move to a public hearing and formal vote during a regularly scheduled school board meeting in June and /or July.
