News Release: FREE summer meals provided to children by Orange County Public Schools
June 4, 2019 – Orange County Public Schools Food and Nutrition Services will be serving meals at 235 schools, community centers, and various children’s activity and recreational centers. The program is funded by USDA and children aged 18 and under are eligible to eat the planned meal at no charge.
The meals, which include breakfast, lunch and/or a snack and will include fresh watermelon and other fruits and vegetables and milk every day. Various school sites will be serving hot meals and include entrees such as hamburgers, chicken wings, nachos, and pizza. At most community centers the meals will include a cold entrée such as southwest chicken salad, turkey and cheese and other deli sandwiches, and nachos.
Seven Orange County libraries are serving lunch from June 3 - August 2. These include the library branches at Hiawassee, Washington Park, Chickasaw, South Trail, South Creek, North Orange, and Fairview Shores. All libraries will have programs to encourage reading after the meal service. No meals will be served on July 4th. The district’s food truck and food bus with full refrigeration facilities will deliver these meals at lunchtime.
