Board Member Application
 
The Board of Directors are responsible for ensuring the organization’s long-term financial stability, integrity and fulfilling the Chamber’s mission.
 
Responsibilities
  • Support the mission statement and work with staff to accomplish the mission. Participate in strategic planning activities and regular assessments to improve board performance. Prioritize and monitor programs and services. Participate in EOCC events and meetings.
  • Read and understand the financial statements and otherwise assist the Board in fulfilling its fiduciary responsibility. Obtain various means of support for the organization, such as sponsorships, advertisers, members, exhibitors, speakers, etc.
  • Attend board meetings and actively participate in decision-making. Share your expertise with the board and staff. Lead one or volunteer on at least two committees each year.
  • Be an advocate for the Chamber; promote the organization to your professional contacts to encourage membership.
  • Maintain your membership.
  • Secure at least 2 new dues paying members each year.
  • Disclose any relationships or commitments that may in any way constitute a conflict of interest with EOCC activities. 
  • Work to develop new leadership and recommend potential board members to carry on the mission of the Chamber. 

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Must be an active member of the EOCC in good standing.
  • Have knowledge of history, mission, goals and bylaws of the EOCC.
  • Ability to handle organization business with tact, enthusiasm and commitment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to motivate committee members.
  • Ability to take responsibility and follow through on assignments.
Term of Service
Members of the Board of Directors serve a three-year term, or are appointed for a one-year term as the Chair of a Council.  New Board members begin their term January 1st.
  
Time Commitment
The estimated time required is 5 to 10 hours per month to attend each board meeting, serve or assist on committees and be available to members, other leaders and staff, attend events.
