How to be a Park & Plug site host

What is Park & Plug?

In 2018, Duke Energy launched Park & Plug, a pilot program through December 2022 to bring electric vehicle (EV) charging stations to communities like yours. To make this program work, we need qualified site hosts to serve as charging station locations.

Why participate?

The number of EVs on the road is growing rapidly. This is a great opportunity for your organization to participate in this program and contribute to Florida’s smart energy future. By becoming a Park & Plug EV charging station site location, you have an opportunity to:

  • Enhance the visibility of your organization’s sustainability efforts
  • Provide added benefit to tenants, employees and customers who drive EVs
  • Attract new, socially conscious customers who are current EV drivers
  • Promote the adoption of clean transportation from clean energy in your community

Who can participate?

To participate as a Park & Plug site host, you must:
  • Be a current Duke Energy customer in Florida
  • Agree to participate in the program through December 2022
    • Site hosts agreement required
  • After a Duke Energy assessment, the customer may need to agree to establish a separate account, install a separate meter and be responsible for ongoing tariff charges. (If a new meter is needed, Duke Energy will install it at no cost.)
  • Meet site location requirements
    • Safe, well-lit area
    • Paved
    • Adequate ingress/egress
    • Adequate power in close proximity to chosen site
  • Provide one parking space per charging port
  • Provide non-discriminatory access to EV charging spots
  • Comply with all Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements

What other factors affect site selection?

Duke Energy will evaluate applications for site hosts that meet minimum participation requirements, along with additional qualitative factors, including:
  • Potential for high utilization
  • 10% of charging stations will be installed in income-qualified communities, as defined by Florida statute
  • For public installation, proximity to amenities for the EV driver will be given preference
  • Duke Energy reserves the right to refuse applications that may not meet the intent of the pilot program

How do I apply?

Duke Energy will begin taking applications from potential site hosts in April of 2018. If your organization is interested in participating as a site host, please complete our application and be sure to include a site map on where you want charging stations installed. Details on how to provide a site map can be found here. We’ll contact you with additional details.

Additional information

  • Duke Energy will report usage data to the Florida Public Service Commission on an annual basis
  • All equipment will be branded Duke Energy
  • Pilot program extends through December 2022 – continuation of the program after that date is subject to the Florida Public Service Commission approval
