The East Orlando Chamber of Commerce Presents the Annual SE Update. Attend a dialog between prominent business leaders, providing information about the growth and development planned for Lake Nona and Southeast Orange County.

Fred holds a Bachelors of Arts with honors in Criminal Justice from the University of Central Florida, and a Master of Science in Public Administration from Florida State University.
Before assuming his present role at UCF in 2003, Fred was Chief of Staff to Orlando Mayor Glenda Hood, serving in the Mayor's office for 8 years. Prior to his city service Fred was Vice President for Governmental Affairs & Executive Director of the Small Business Chamber for the Greater Orlando Chamber of Commerce. He began his career as a Legislative Aide to State Senator George Stuart, Jr.
Fred is active in various local civic organizations. He is a Board member of Junior Achievement, Coalition for the Homeless, Tiger Bay and the Orlando/Orange County Compact. Fred is an elder and adult Sunday school teacher at Winter Park Presbyterian Church. He is an alumnus of Leadership Florida and Leadership Orlando, and past president UCF Alumni Association.
Fred has been married to Sandra B. Kittinger for 30 years and has one daughter Alyssa, and is a proud new grandfather.

Dr. Dick Peppler was appointed Associate Dean for Faculty and Academic Affairs and Professor of Anatomy at the University of Central Florida College of Medicine in August 2007. He was appointed as interim chair for the Department of Medical Education from 2007-2010 and now serves as interim director for the Burnett School for Biomedical Sciences. He received his BA from Gettysburg College and his PhD from the University of Kansas Medical Center, and was a faculty member at the LSU Medical Center, Quillen College of Medicine at ETSU and at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center before coming to UCF.

Thad Seymour leads planning, marketing, sales and business development for Lake Nona, including its Medical City in Orlando, Florida. His role encompasses institutional recruitment and new business ventures, driving innovation, and cultivating collaboration among the Lake Nona partners. Thad also serves as president of the Lake Nona Institute, which focuses on using the community to innovate and model best practices in health and wellness, sustainability and education.
Prior to joining Lake Nona, Thad was a senior executive with specialty pharmacy CuraScript, a $3 billion subsidiary of Express Scripts. He also has extensive experience in healthcare informatics, including co-founding a venture-backed electronic medical records company. Thad has served previously on the boards of multiple healthcare technology businesses and as a director of the Florida Venture Forum.
A board member of BioFlorida, co-chair of bioOrlando, and immediate past chair of the Florida Research Consortium, Thad is active in promoting the importance of research in the acceleration of economic development in the state. Thad is also a regional board member of OneBlood and chair of Shepherd?s Hope, which provides medical care to uninsured and underinsured patients throughout Central Florida.
Thad holds a BA from Dartmouth College, an MA and Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin, and an MBA from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University. Thad and his wife, Katie, have three children.
At ETSU, he was founding faculty and Associate Chair of the Department of Anatomy, and at UT, he served as Associate Dean for Academic and Faculty Affairs for 22 years and as Dean of the College of Graduate Health Sciences for 10 years. As Dean, he was responsible for 7 graduate programs with over 350 graduate students and 400 graduate faculty. As the Associate Dean at UT, he was administratively responsible for over 2,100 faculty appointed in various positions and located at training sites throughout the state of Tennessee. He had direct responsibility in the College of Medicine for (1) the specific academic programs for 600 medical students; (2) the development and management of the curriculum; and (3) the processes of appointment, promotion and award of tenure for faculty. Peppler has over 75 publications in the area of reproductive physiology and medical education. He was recognized at ETSU in 1984 as a Distinguished Faculty Member and in 1994 by the University of Tennessee Alumni Association with their outstanding teaching award. In addition, he has received many teaching awards from students at LSU, ETSU and UT.
Dick has served on the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Reaffirmation Committees to the Medical College of Georgia, UT Southwestern, The Texas A&M Health Science Center, Texas Tech University Health Science Center, the University of Alabama at Birmingham, The University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, the Medical University of South Carolina and the University of Texas Health Sciences Center at San Antonio; the latter seven of which he chaired.
Dr. Peppler served on active duty during the Vietnam conflict at Fitzsimons General Hospital in Denver and during Operation Desert Storm at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. He retired in 1999 from the USAR with over 35 years of service.

CEO, Nemours Childrens Hospital, Orlando
Roger A. Oxendale, MBA, currently serves as the Chief Executive Officer of Nemours Children's Hospital (NCH), a pediatric academic medical center in Orlando's Lake Nona Medical City. He also functions as a Senior Vice President for Nemours, one of the nation's leading pediatric health systems. He joined the organization in April 2010 as the founding CEO of the hospital and oversaw the construction of the $400 million facility, which opened in October 2012. He helped to recruit a team of world-class pediatric specialists who offer care that was previously unavailable in Central Florida.
While CEO, NCH has been recognized for its leadership in healthcare. The Emergency Nurses Association honored the Emergency Department with its prestigious Lantern Award which recognized the department's commitment to quality and safety. Only 17 Emergency Departments in the U.S. received the honor. In 2013, The Florida Hospital Association recognized NCH with an award for "Leadership in Quality and Patient Safety".
Mr. Oxendale has been very involved in the community since he arrived. In 2014, he served as the corporate chair of the JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes and the chair of the Golden Eagle Dinner which supports the Central Florida Council of the Boy Scouts of America. Mr. Oxendale serves on the board of the Boy Scouts. In 2013, he served as the chair of the March for Babies, the largest annual fundraising event for the March of Dimes.
Orlando Magazine has three times named Mr. Oxendale as one of the region's "50 Most Powerful". In 2013, the Orlando Business Journal named him one of the area's "Business Executives of the Year". Prior to joining Nemours, he served as CEO of Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC and as president of the Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh Foundation. Timothy W. Liezert is Director for the VA Medical Center in Orlando, Florida. The Orlando VA Medical Center, serving an area of nearly 90,000 Veteran patients in East Central Florida, is one of seven members of the VISN 8 Healthcare System. The Orlando VA Medical Center includes the Orlando VA Medical Center, the Community Living Center, the Residential Rehabilitation Program, the Viera Outpatient Clinic, the Daytona Outpatient Clinic, and four Community Based Outpatient Clinics located in Clermont, Kissimmee, Leesburg, and Orange City.
Prior to his appointment on Aug. 6, 2006, Mr. Liezert served as Acting Director/Associate Medical Center Director at the VA Western New York Healthcare System. Prior to this appointment, he was Acting Director at the Lebanon Pennsylvania VA Medical Center. Mr. Liezert has also served as Associate Director at the Lebanon and Battle Creek, Michigan VA Medical Centers.
Mr. Liezert began his VA career as an Engineering Co-operative student at the Cleveland Ohio VA Medical Center and worked in Engineering and Facilities Management positions at the Indianapolis, Indiana, Castle Point, New York and Battle Creek, Michigan VA Medical Centers.
Mr. Liezert received his undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Akron. He later received his Masters of Business Administration degree from Western Michigan University. Mr. Liezert is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives.
