The League of Women Voters of Orange County will be presenting an introductory event for members and non-members Thursday, June 2 from 6pm-7:30pm here in East Orlando.
The LWVOC is a 96-year-old NON-PARTISAN group dedicated to providing information about issues and voter involvement. Formed nationally in 1920 as an outgrowth of the women's suffrage movement, the League of Women Voters began accepting members in 1973. Currently almost 20% of their membership are men.
The most recent victory in voters rights battles for the League of Women Voters in Florida is the results of the decades long battle against gerrymandering of state and Congressional voting districts, where the Florida Supreme Court ruled in favor of the 'Fair Districts' lawsuit brought by the League.
