In it's inaugural year, we are excited to honor Juan Sanchez-Ramos, MD, PhD at our Celebration of Hope at Bonefish Grill on Saturday December 7th from 10am to 1pm. Dr. Sanchez-Ramos has dedicated much of his career to learning everything he can about Huntington’s disease, a rare hereditary neurodegenerative illness that impacts cognition, mood, and movement.
His work has filled the medical literature with findings that offer a better understanding of how the disease begins, progresses, and is passed on to progeny. His work has led to a more practical method for gene therapy delivery via a nose-to-brain instillation of nanoparticles.
The Celebration of Hope program recognizes the incredible work done across the network of fifty-six HDSA Centers of Excellence. These HD centers provide an elite multidisciplinary approach to Huntington’s disease care and research. Three of these world-class facilities are located in Florida at the University of Florida, University of Miami-Miller School of Medicine and University of South Florida. Patients seen at these centers benefit from expert neurologists, psychiatrists, therapists, counselors and other professionals who have deep experience working with families affected by HD. These professionals work collaboratively to help families plan the best HD care program.
