Dr. Peter Wearden

Topic: Nemours Children’s Hospital Update
Peter D. Wearden, MD, PhD, is a pediatric cardiothoracic surgeon with clinical expertise in congenital heart surgery, heart transplantation and pediatric mechanical cardiopulmonary support. He joined Nemours Children’s Hospital as the chief of cardiovascular surgery in the fall of 2015. Prior to coming to Nemours, he served as a cardiothoracic surgeon at the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh where he was also surgical director for the Pediatric Heart and Lung Transplantation Program and director of the Mechanical Cardiopulmonary Support Program. Dr. Wearden earned his medical degree and a doctorate in pharmacology and toxicology from the West Virginia University School of Medicine, where he continued his training with a residency in general surgery. Following a second residency in cardiothoracic surgery at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, Dr. Wearden completed a fellowship in pediatric cardiothoracic surgery at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto. Dr. Wearden is certified by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery from which he holds additional qualification in pediatric and congenital heart surgery.

The Lake Nona Area Council is a joint group consisting of the East Orlando Chamber of Commerce and the St. Cloud Greater Osceola Chamber of Commerce.
